The wild, savage boar was grunting deep, angry belly rumbles which were punctuated by the occasional spontaneous squeal and slobbering snort. His long snout and razor-sharp tusks rototilled the hard, dark forest terra firma like an industrial beast gone mad. The ridge of stiff hairs stood up on his back like some prehistoric monster from hell. Very handsome indeed, but a force to reckon with for sure. Young, petite, eleven-year old Brook clutched her bow tightly and looked at her uncle with eyes the size of full moons. The increasing heat of late morning was already beginning to toast the wonderland, but the beads of sweat on the hunter’s brow were not temperature inspired. No, those were bowhunting party beads, happy beads, beads of desire, beads for the kill. This pretty young lady knows how to party, and her parties include fresh, organic pork on the grill, and she ain’t going to the grocery store, thank you. Brook is a killer, a bowhunter, a woman of the wild. SheBeast. Only eleven and more than ready to rock doc. PigManDo! No problem. Let’s git it on McPork!
An ardent fan of Spirit of the Wild TV, Brook and her brother made it a point to watch every show every week with their family. Brook sat in wonderment at the dazzling, svelte blonde babe named Shemane, with her trusty bow and arrow, walking the wild, always smiling happily with her giddy husband, killing big game with a lightweight bow and a single, razorsharp arrow. “I can do that!” Brook would exclaim. “I can be the Queen of the Forest! Let’s go huntin’ baby!” You got that right, Brook. You go girl!
Taking advantage of the cover and terrain, just like her Uncle, grandpa and Shemane had taught her, she squiggled and squirmed up the ridgeline, the towering big timber, bird life, fresh air, and instinct to kill igniting a primal fire deep in her young belly. She earned her kill that day; performing the challenging list of bowhunter demands to put a razor-sharp Magnus Stinger clean through the vitals of the gnarly beast. She went on to bowkill a handsome wild ram as well, and when my daughter Sasha and I visited with her and her family, we knew we had us a powerfully positive young woman. Girls don’t bowhunt? Girls don’t want to crawl through the forest and kill wild boars? Girls don’t like archery? Bullpork. Girls just wanna have fun, and more and more of them are coming to the exciting revelation that there is nothing more fun than hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting. Unleash the SheBeast. The Spirit of the Wild is her playground.
Sasha and I were still smiling and talking about our happy encounter with Brook as we headed to the Nugent gun range for a little lead and gunpowder partying of our own. Sasha killed her first Texas whitetail with a rifle way back in 1981 when she was just eight years old. She has always enjoyed shooting and our precious time together in the great outdoors. Today, she would practice with a Glock 10mm handgun, just to be sure she knew how to properly operate this particular gun. Sasha is a crackshot with most firearms and, in fact, quite handy with various full auto machineguns and sniper rifles. Shooting with both Trijicon open sights and Crimson Trace Laser sights, she was banging the steel plates like a commando pro in short time. We filmed her loading magazines, operating the various functions, and getting the hang of the overall feel of this fine Austrian pistol. She was rocking and having a grand old time with her dad.
Likewise, my Queen of the Forest herself, Shemane, had picked up on the thrills and joys of the shooting sports in no time. She had never fired a gun or bow when we first met, but saw the glowing joys that Tribe Nuge got out of every session and was quick to discover the disciplined shootist within. She has gone on to introduce many gals to firearms and archery and she has bowkilled many big game animals in America and Africa. Loving the sport has driven her to become a leading force in the recruitment of women into the shooting sports worldwide. That’s how ya’ do it.
Never underestimate the fact that, introduced thoughtfully and properly, women immediately fall in love with guns, hunting and the outdoor lifestyle. Not only do they make the greatest hunting and shooting partners in the world, they demonstrate a powerful believability to everyone about how dishonest the media propaganda machine is in misrepresenting these things we all love so much. Nothing says pro-gun and pro-hunting like an army of female participants, voters, and activists. Many are convinced that the positive future of gun rights and conservation will be determined by how many women we get to see the importance of these self-evident truths. Target the women in your life and let’s create a team of female commandos to once and for all crush those who would deny us these wonderful pursuits of happiness in America. Let the women do the talking and the shooting.
